a very "florken" wedding: the ceremony

As promised, here are more "Florken" wedding pictures. Today, I'm showing you some details of both the reception and ceremony space and sharing our ceremony with you guys. So sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Our ceremony space
The grandparents being seated...
Five handsome men
Seating of the parents and my beautiful sister, brother-in-law, and niece.
Obviously not thinking of photos -- we were discussing the pacing with the song. We were "sung" down the aisle by a live singer singing, "The Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel.
Trying my best not to cry when seeing Adam. Yes, my "trying not to cry" face is pretty terrible -- my "actual cry face" is even worse!
My little brother performed a traditional Japanese wedding sake ceremony in honor of Adam's Japanese heritage.
We also literally "tied the knot." To symbolize our new family, we were each presented with a "cord" from our mothers: Adam was black, mine was white. We then tied the "unbreakable" fisherman's double knot. The knot makes the two separate cords as strong as a single one. We plan to frame the knot in our home.
Adam and I each shared a special message with each other. Adam's was "off the cuff" but mine was written in advance. I'll share it with you:

Adam --

You are the strongest, sweetest, dorkiest, most caring & most handsome person I have ever known -- and that sir, is an understatement.

I know that throughout our lives together, we will have so many things to be grateful for: homes, jobs, promotions, time with family and friends, children...the list goes on. But the thing I will always be most grateful for is the chance to experience all of those things with you. And when darkness approaches, I cannot think of a single person I'd rather have standing beside me, holding my hand, and reassuring me that this too shall pass.

Being a cynic, I never could have imagine that another person could simultaneously complete me and yet allow me to completely be my own person. But you have managed that impossible balance with such ease that I often wonder what I did to deserve such a blessing in my life. Surely you could have loved someone who is less stubborn or less fickle. You could have loved someone who always put their shoes away or who was better about loading her dirty dishes into the dishwasher. You could have loved someone infinitely better than me...

But you did not choose to stand here today with someone else. You chose me. That simple sentence still sometimes take s my breath away. You chose me. I promise to honor your choice by loving you fiercely and unconditionally throughout this life and the next.

I love you.
Finally, we used verses from the Book of Ruth as our actual vows:

"Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me."
Ruth 1:16-17
Finally -- the kiss.

There you have it -- more "Florken" wedding fun! Let us know what you think of the pictures and the details of our ceremony. And finally -- remember to tune in next week for pictures of our reception!

  1. Dead. I'm dead looking at these. WOW. You both look amazing. What a gorgeous day for some amazing people. LOVE IT.

  2. Awww! What a beautiful day! I love looking at outdoor wedding pictures but I wouldn't have been brave enough to have an outdoor wedding! (Of course, I also got married in December, so....no one would have let me have an outdoor wedding, I'm pretty sure).

  3. Gorgeous photos!! Such an amazing setting.

I absolutely lovvve The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel. They play it in the last episode of Scrubs, and it always makes me cry. We also used it for our wedding slide show video.
